Match Report
Globes 4                               Laurels 4
(B.Hepburn 2,R.Miller,D.Robertson,)    (N.Frame 2,S.Johnson,S.Foster)

The 2003 reunion game took place at HMS Drake Plymouth on the 2nd July. The weather was brilliant and the pitch was top draw, even George Bolton could play on this surface, the crowd which included Ex chairman Clive "Toby" Hunter and Ex Legend Paul Dixon were out in force, mainly because they had'nt eaten and were waiting for the BBQ to kick off, we even had four match officials, the only thing missing was a ball, a small oversight on the planning side, however this was over come and the game got underway.

Now i can't remember everything because i was playing (i think i will get some one else to do the match report next year) but here are a few things that stand out and that were talked about on the night out. After a neatly taken goal by Navy Legend Steve Johnson (record 229 caps) the Globes hit back with the goal of the game, a trade mark Angus Hepburn screamer into the top corner which left keeper simmo with no chance, the Laurels took the lead again when Brum Daly ghosted past Phil Shuttleworth down the right flank and whipped a cross in which Nelly Frame despatched past Ex Corps Keeper Bob "the cat" Fardoe for 2-1.The globes Angus Hepburn kept sending balls down the left flank for Darby Allen to chase and Darby Allen kept looking at Angus with daggers (he was in a bucket).
The Laurels took a 3-1 lead going into half time when Nelly Frame notched his second after some good work from the evergreen George Kent. The Laurels then had a clear penalty turned away from the (blind) referee when the outrageously dirty Al Tweed pushed me (Fozzy) in the back just has I was about to pull the trigger and send Bob Fardoe into the back of the net, the ref said i dived ? (i don't know how to dive). The ref then blew for half time.

After some stern words from George kent (laurels) and Russ wilson (Globes) and 5 Gallons of water later
the second half got under way. The Globes responded to Russ wilson and George Boltons half time pep talk and got two goals back from Angus Hepburn (His second) and Ricky Miller to draw level, This brings me to Ricky Millers goal celebration, double back flips, whats that all about (very impessive and lets hope he scores next year).

Stevie Marr now started to stamp his authority on the game and from a superb Dave Sommerton-rees cross
Fozzy Foster aka Albert the bear at the back post scored an unstopable header past the hapless Bob Fardoe in the Globes goal to make it 4-3 to the Laurels.
By now Russ wilson and Si Taylor were fired up and along with George Bolton and Sammy Spall they rolled up their sleaves and started to throw everything at the Laurels back four of Sharky Ward, Tel Price, Stevie Marr and Tony "the hatchet" Blandon, they withheld the Globes until the (blind) referee awarded a pen for no apparent reason (hand ball) and Dave "pace maker" Robertson slotted home from the spot, this outrageous decision could have led to a riot but the crowd managed to control themselves and were later humoured by Jason Margrett who substituted Stevie Marr for a Boot Cleaner stand. The game finnished a fitting 4-4 draw and both teams enjoyed a BBQ and after match drinks before setting off for a night out down Union Street.
I cant remember saying on the vets invite letter that it was a 60's night out but i must have considering some of the clobber on view, even Paul Curry would have looked a dresser amongst some of these lot ( ok then maybe not Cuz  but you get the drift).

Anyway by the end of the night Angus Hepburns 18yd pile driver was up to 35yds and Ricky Millers goal celebration back flips were up to 7. Oh and Phil Shuttleworth had convinced himself that he had skinned me twice for pace (dream on and get the wets in bitch).

Ps See you all next year and take care. Check the site out for all future info.

Corps football whats it all about!!! Fozzy at the back post signing off.
